The mission
Football Gear Lab exists because buying equipment is confusing and expensive. Helmets cost more than a season of cleats, every brand claims the same things, and nobody tells you which pads actually work at your position.
So we keep one running list of what is worth strapping on. Every category gets the same treatment: what the piece is good at, who it is built for, what it costs, and a direct link to grab it. Nothing more complicated than that.
How we pick
Field time first
Gear earns a spot after it has been through practices and games, not after a spec sheet read well.
Position before ranking
We sort picks by who they are built for — skill, lineman, youth — because one list never fits every player.
Price in context
A helmet and a wristband are not judged the same way. We weigh what each piece costs against what it actually does.
Updated as lines change
Manufacturers refresh models constantly. When a pick is replaced, the page gets replaced with it.
